Look around a typical marina during the summer months and you will see dozens of vessels—some new, some old, some big, some small, and perhaps a few that show signs of transient color changes in the PVC fabrics being used. Vinyl and fabric manufacturers, marine fabricators and boat owners alike are eager to pinpoint the problem and find a solution.
Recently, Glen Raven Custom Fabrics embarked on a scientific investigation into the cause of the pinking phenomenon, hoping to uncover ways industry players can prevent and treat transient color change issues in the future. Glen Raven hired Dr. Investigations then pointed to compounds that were removed from vinyl production and the problem pretty much went away.
In recent years, we have seen a greater influx of imported vinyl that uses the same compounds, and the problem has reared its ugly head once again. According to Priddy, the primary cause of discoloration is the migration of trace chemicals from adjacent materials laminated to the PVC. Before any paint is applied, all the dirt and mildew buildup needs to be cleaned from both aluminum and vinyl.
You will need mild soap, water and cleaning supplies such as sponges, rags or brushes, depending on how tough the dirt is to remove. But don't sand or use a wire brush when doing surface preparation on vinyl. This can permanently damage the siding surface. You might need to power-wash some spots. But take care when power washing because the force can inject excess amounts of water into and behind the siding, causing problems when you begin to apply the paint.
Huper Optik vs. Huper Optik Ceramic Tint Review. Lay down painter's tape along the top edge of the wall where it meets the ceiling. Use a ruler to press the tape down tightly onto the wall. Run a putty knife along the bead of caulk so that you scrape away the excess caulk but leave a thin layer on the edge of the ceiling, overlapping the tape. However, the only way to know for sure is to do a test. Let it dry for about 48 hours. With a utility knife, cut Xs and tic-tac-toe designs in the paint.
The cuts should cut all the way through the paint. Take sections of clear, high-quality, packing tape and press it firmly onto the scored sections. Rub it to make it adhere thoroughly, and then peel the tape off, pulling it at a sharp angle. The objective is to pull off any paint that has chipped loose in the corners.
If there is only a tiny amount of paint on the tape, then it is adhering very well. But, if a lot of paint adheres to the tape, you need to try a different brand. If the vinyl is peeling and cracked, a primer should be applied first. Then, you can apply the paint. This is the perfect alternative if a casement window is causing your vinyl to melt and you want to be able to keep it functional. Homeowners can have an exterior screen on the glass while the window can still swing outward.
Homeowners can also cover the low-e windows with awnings to keep the sun off. Replace the low-e glass with a different type. There are many different glass package options out there. Ask us to see what type of windows are right for your situation. Plant a landscape buffer between homes to prevent the reflections from hitting the vinyl siding.
Replace your siding with vinyl siding that is resistant to high temperatures above degrees F. Higher end vinyl sidings are worth the investment if this is a common issue that will need to be addressed year after year.
A low angle of sunlight like in late fall, winter, or early spring, is more likely to produce the effect. Proximity to the adjoining house, wind speed, air temperature, and the presence of buffering foliage are all additional contributing factors.
I started a business making sure with my wife a month ago and we've completed probably 8 orders that ranged from 6 - shirts. I want to get a vinyl cutter to make this more efficient than my current way which is designing, ordering from a transferexpress or similiar site and then pressing it.
